Stop it. Please. I mean it. Stop. How about you change your captions to “I have no makeup on, I am a natural beauty”, “I tried my very best to look good under a severe time constraint, and man do I look good, so I’m taking a picture of it”, “I don’t look like a mess today/I’m not ugly/I’m not fat.”
Look, the truth is, we take pictures of ourselves because we want some sort of validation, and that is in no way a crime. Vanity and narcissism resides in all of us. We have different ways of expressing it. But, atleast, let’s be honest about the validation we’re seeking. You didn’t take a picture of yourself for thousands of people to see because you look awful, as your cute little pouty caption suggests. You took a picture because you look good, you want everyone to know you look good, and you want to be told you look good. You don’t have 32 “likes” because you look bad. Boys aren’t fawning over you, desperately trying to get your attention with every “like” and comment because you look bad. Girls aren’t telling you you look gorgeous because you look bad. You’re not self-deprecating. This isn’t self-deprecating humour. You’re seeking attention, like we all are, so just own it. Your pouty-lipped, doe-eyed, dishonest proclamations makes me want to make kittens cry and punch rainbows. And I never say that.
Lots of love,
Your Fellow Narcissist
p.s. Shame on all you boys and girls that feed into such dishonesty!
